Default Did a ct scan.. worried about bladder cancer?

Hey guys I've had blood in my urine, severe pain in my bladder when I urinate, bladder spasms and kidney pain on and off for months now. I've had 3 tests so far.. an ultrasound, a urine cytology and a CT scan and they showed some small stones but no signs of cancer. The CT scan was without contrast so I'm worried that a normal CT scan isn't accurate enough to detect bladder cancer. Does anyone know? I'm only 26 years old and I'm very worried. Any opinions would be appreciated. thanks

First of all, bladder cancer is EXTREMELY rare in someone who is 26 years old. Blood in urine could be due to a urinary tract infection, kidney stones, during a woman's period..etc. CT scan is not a sensitive test for bladder cancer. Cytology is OK, the definitive test would be a cystoscopy; a camera up the urethra to look into the bladder and take biopsies..etc. Likely diagnosis would be nephrolithiasis or kidney stones....can be hereditary, due to diet or other metabolic causes. Drink lots of water and avoid medicines that cause stone formation. Talk to a urologist if still concerned for possible cystoscopy.

I have a daughter that is going through the cancer scare right now, and there are so many other things that point to cancer, such as elevated white corpuscles, proteins in the blood, and urine, so if they are looking for cancer many tests will be used , and the ct scan is a very accurate peice of equipment good luck to you

oh wow....I've had so many ct scans i couldn't even count them....without contrast are just as accurate as with....if they weren't looking at your brain or sinuses, then they would have needed the contrast anyway....I've had tons of them....with and without contrast they're just as acurate

I wouldn't worry so much. They know what they are doing. If they did a cytology they probably have checked for signs of cancer allready and the CT Scan is probably to see the stones and where they are and if they can blast them apart or if they will have to do surgery or maybe to see something else. Contrast is not always the magic thing that tells them what they need to know. I will keep you in my prayers, these things are very painful and hard to treat also, I know a few people that have been through passing srtones and having them in their tubes and I know they were in bad pain. Good luck to you and just stick to the program and drink a lot of water to keep it flushed out wqhile you are waiting.
