My dad just found out today that popcorn ceiling's have asbestos in it and 3 of our bedrooms have this popcorn ceiling, our house was built in 1978 and we've been living here forever. I'm 18 now and have had that ceiling in my bedroom ever sence i was born an im scared, i dont wanna sleep upstairs in it now, and i use to chip my ceiling and stick stuff in it to hang things up like a dream catcher and that sort of stuff, should i be worried?

I wouldn't worry about it.

The danger isn't the chips, their far too large to be a concern. The danger would be if you were say, sanding the ceiling and causing a fine dust or mist.

When asbestos is in a fine powder form, it can be inhaled and that's where the danger comes in. Keep the ceilings painted, that holds the fibers in place.

If you plan on renovating or tearing out the ceilings, than I'd hire a professional to do the demolition work.

There can never be too much caution. If I were you I would see a doctor who could take xrays of your lungs to determine if the is something inside of them. Shouldn't someone in the household put a drop ceiling under the asbestos until it can be removed? They are definite carcinogens and should not be in your home or at work. They are on the "hit" list because they can cause a lung disease that could be dangerous. Get them off the ceiling and see a doctor.
