and didn't have any health issues? I have heard of people who worked with this stuff for life and never had a problem and I have also herad the opposite. I may need to have 16' of the stuff removed.

If it is not peeling it is recommended that you just cover it up. When you disturb asbestos the fibers can get into your lungs. Even if you don't inhale it when you remove it if you don't do thorough cleaning the dust will stay in the area and if you disturb the dust you risk inhaling it later.

In some states it is illegal to remove the stuff yourself. You have to hire an asbestos certified removal team.

My gransfather died from complications from asbestos.

I worked in it for years before it was know as a carcinagen, some people are more prone to problems smokers etc. If you are going to remove it, soak it with water to stop the dust then. Keep it wet and wear a good dust mask. Cut and don't tear it. Put in plastic and dispose of properly.
