Default Stomach cancer?

My husband has to go in for an endoscopy to see if he has stomach cancer, and I am terrified. From what I understand, the life expectancy is 5 years if it's positive? Does anyone have any experience with this? His mom died of lymphomatic cancer, so cancer runs in his family, but he's only 40 year old.
Upper GI showed acid reflux disease about 1/2 way up his esophogus. This is supposedly just a "screening" test but I can't help but be worried and prepare for the worst.

Hi, I have GIST(gastro intestinal stromal tumor) and so i can tell you i know how you feel. The endoscopy is a great idea, because you will be able to see what kind of mass, if any is in the stomach. It could even be GIST, or it could be stomach cancer, or it could be a tumor. Life expectancy doesn't really factor into too much, as its just a rough guidline. I understand your worry, but its time for you to just get things over with and deal with them as they show up. I hope everything is okay for you both but if not, don't give in to despair, be strong for each other, and enjoy every moment you have. Good luck, and hopefully its nothing.
