Can all thyroid cancers be detected w/ an FNA? (Caution:long story ahead)?
I have two nodules on my thyroid. 6 mos ago, one was 2 cm and partially cystic. The other was 11mm and solid. Fine Needle Aspiration report said benign on both. Radiologist called me to tell me the solid nodule had "unusual cells, but we'll wait and look again in 6 months." NucMed scan said neither nodules were hot, warm, or cold.
I had an ultrasound Thursday (that was 6 months from previous US.)The partially cystic nodule is now 4 cm and the solid has stayed 11mm.
My doc gave me the impression 6 mos ago that if in 6 mos, the nodules did not go away or got larger, we would just take them out. Now he's changing his mind.
My queston is, what are the chances that the FNA was wrong? Given what the radiologist told me 'behind closed doors' would you be concerned? Is it time for a new doc? I just don't know what to do.....
Little history: I've been tested for hyper/hypo thyroidism. Diagnosed with "sub-clinical hyperthyroidism" then dx was changed to negative a month later b/c test showed no probs with T3, T4, and TSH.
Have had left side chest pain that radiates to left underarm. Had heart tests done, no probs.
