Hi kmjohnson41

I'm very sorry to hear about your dad's diagnosis.

Some of the most positive news to come out recently on pancreatic cancer is that Vitamin D may be able to improve the outcome.

Your dad may want to get his Vitamin D levels tested. The optimal range is 45-50ng/ml or 115-128nmol/L. The correct test is 25(OH)D; or it may be called 25-hydroxyvitamin D.

He can get a megadose to bring his levels up quickly and then go on a lower maintenance dose.

Even a mild deficiency may be significant in the case of cancer.

I hope this helps. Good luck to you and your Dad.

Pancreatic cancer is bad. Survival rates are low. That doesn't mean that survival is impossible though. You have to move forward with hope. Find out what the total prognosis is before you completely jump to any conclusions. Find out what treatment options there are. Mostly, support your dad and honor the way he wants to fight this thing.

I haven't had any family members with pancreatic cancer. I did lose my grandfather to cancer 3 years ago. It was discovered in his liver...they found it in his lungs...in his abdominal cavity..and moving into this stomach. I had a really hard time with it. He went for treatments...chemo...etc.. At some point he decided that the treatments were making him too sick and weren't worth it. I initially tried to get him to change his mind, but then I decided I wasn't going through what he was going through and I just needed to stand by him and offer to support him.

Good luck. There are a lot of organizations out there that can help you and your family.
