Default Pancreatic Cancer Question?

My sister was diagnosed with stage 3..... she had the whipple on the 20th of this month and is still in the hospital. they gave her solid foods yesterday, but she cannot keep the food down. I understand why from all my searches, but my question is she said they will release her tomorrow... Can they release her when she cannot keep the food down... (she will be staying with me) and I need to know what to do.... I thought they would put her in a re hab until her body could process the food, but apparently I am wrong.... Has anyone experienced this and any info on the cancer, whipple and life span would be greatly appreaciated. Thank you.

Can they release her? yes
Is it a good idea? probably not
It is usually a decision based on the almighty dollar not the patient.
Survival after pancreatic cancer is rare. They may be sending her home to spend a little time before her life ends. Wouldn't that make her happier than dying in a hospital or nursing home?

No one can say for sure what exactly is going on or how long she will live, but pancreatic cancer is known to be very quick. Talk to her doctors and her nurses, see if hospice care is available, it is invaluable for caring for terminal patients.
See if you can at least get a visiting nurse to come in.
Talk to the resource manager at the hospital your sister is in for other kinds of help.
Good luck to both of you.
